The Titanic Factor is our inability to see the 'Icebergs' that lie in wait for us. When things are too hard or too big for us to deal with, we act in denial, pretending the problem isn't significant or the danger's not that great.
Very comforting, but not very constructive!
We need to develop new ways of seeing, by taking ourselves outside of our current ideas of reality, and asking the challenging questions everyone wants (but nobody dares) to ask. We have to shake ourselves out of the comfort of being wilfully blind to what's really going on in our world. Or, as Jim Collins (Good to Great) puts it, "To confront the brutal facts."
